Reasons Why You Engage In Farming This Year

The traditional ruler of ukpor ancient Kingdom HRM Igwe (Sir) Felix C. N Onyimadu (Nwajiaku VI) has advised all to take to farming as another means of livelihood in order to avoid the impending hard time in the country occasioned by the destruction of farm lands by Boko Haram and suspected Fulani herdsmen in some major farm producing states in the country as well as destruction of farm produce by flood and other natural course.

Igwe Onyimadu gave the advice during this year’s low-keyed festival of his that took at his palace in Ukpor, the headquarters of Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The loyal father maintained that there was the need for everybody to adopt farming so that when others were harvesting he would join in harvesting and have his own yam and other farm produce to feed on as according to feed on as according to him, there was indication that there might be scarcity of farm produce next year due to the destruction of farm lands by Boko Haram, suspected Fulani herdsmen and other other natural disasters in some states that produce food in the country.

My advice is that everybody should cultivate yam and other crops for those who listen to news will hear that in some places where food was cultivated, flood washed all of them away. So everybody should try and farm because next year there may be scarcity of food. Boko Haram and suspected Fulani herdsmen didn’t allow people in the North where we get bigger food to cultivate and those that cultivate.

Flood destroyed many of their produce. So, I advice people to try and cultivate their farmlands no matter how small so that when the famine hits us, we will know what to do
