INEC urges Election Tribunal to amend the order granted to PDP and LP candidates To inspect election materials – Sets to Reconfigure BVAS for next election

The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices used to conduct the February 25 presidential election are being modified by the Independent National Election Commission (INEC).

The Commission has urged the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to modify the directives that were given to Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party to check the election-related materials.

In a move on notice submitted on March 4, the Commission asks the court to modify the injunction prohibiting it from interfering with election-related materials.

In order to prepare for the upcoming elections, which are set to take place on March 11, INEC stated that the BVAS needs to be reconfigured.

Recall that on March 3, the appeal court had given Atiku and Obi permission to examine the election materials INEC had used to conduct the contentious vote on February 25.

Following two separate ex parte applications submitted by Atiku and Obi, who finished second and third in the election won by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, the court issued the injunction sought by the two parties (APC).

In its application, the Commission asks the court to modify the ruling so that it may modify the BVAS in time for the March 11 elections for the state houses of assembly and governor.
