Justice Chima Centus (CC) Nweze of the Supreme Court of Nigeria has been reported as having passed away. His death occurred on Sunday, at the age of 64.
At present, the Supreme Court has not officially confirmed his passing, as this report is being filed.
In 2020, Justice Nweze delivered a dissenting judgement, declaring Emeka Ihedioha of the People Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the 2019 Governorship election in Imo State.
Furthermore, in a closely contested decision with a three-to-two split, Nweze issued the controversial judgement of the Supreme Court, declaring Ahmad Lawan, then Senate President, as the authentic candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Yobe North Senatorial District in the 25 February general election.
Hailing from Obollo in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Justice Nweze was born on September 25, 1958. His appointment to the Supreme Court came through the approval of the recommendation made by the National Judicial Council (NJC) during Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration in 2014.
